Write a cover letter with AI that sounds like you
Turn a job description and your resume into a specific, honest cover letter in about 15 minutes, with prompts that keep your own voice.
Why it works
Hiring managers skim cover letters for one thing: proof you understand their problem and have done similar work. AI is fast at matching your experience to a job description and drafting the structure. You add the true specifics and the voice, which is what makes a letter believable.
Step by step
Find what the employer actually wants.
Here is a job description. List the 5 things this employer most needs, in order of importance, and the words they use for each. Then tell me which 2 problems the role is really being hired to solve. Job description: [PASTE]
Fill in the [brackets] with your details before you send.
Match your real experience.
Here is my resume. For each of the 5 needs above, point to the most relevant thing I've actually done, or say 'gap' if I have nothing. Don't invent or exaggerate anything. Resume: [PASTE]
Fill in the [brackets] with your details before you send.
Draft the letter.
Write a cover letter under 250 words for [ROLE] at [COMPANY]. Open with one specific sentence about why this role or company, using this real reason: [YOUR REASON]. Use my two strongest matches as short examples with results where I gave numbers. Close with a simple next step. Plain, confident language; no phrases like 'I am writing to express my interest' or 'perfect fit'.
Fill in the [brackets] with your details before you send.
Make it sound like you.
Here's a paragraph I wrote myself, so you can hear my voice: [PASTE 3–4 SENTENCES]. Rewrite the letter to match that tone, then list any sentence that still sounds generic so I can replace it with my own words.
Fill in the [brackets] with your details before you send.
Replace anything in [BRACKETS] with your details. Works with most AI chat assistants. The ChatGPT and Claude buttons open a new chat with the prompt already typed in, and you press send. Gemini doesn't accept pre-filled links, so its button copies the prompt for you to paste. For steps 2 and later, paste into the same chat you started so the AI keeps the context.

Tips and cautions
- Only include experience you can talk about in an interview.
- Check the company name, role title and hiring manager's name yourself; AI mixes these up.
- Rewrite at least the first and last sentence by hand for every application.
FAQ
Is it okay to use AI to write a cover letter?
Most employers care whether the letter is accurate and specific, not which tool helped draft it. Some application forms ask you not to use AI; follow those instructions. Either way, edit the draft so every claim is true and in your own voice.
How long should a cover letter be?
Short is usually better. Aim for three or four short paragraphs, under a page, unless the posting asks for something different.
